Private college tuition has gone through the roof in the last ten years and like a bubble, the fees will collapse. We have the perfect scenario where we could increase our fees and stilll be way below the private schools but still offer what they do, basically graduate in 4 years.
Lets add up the numbers, an additional $2,500 X 4 years= $10,000. Well if you're getting a job the pays $40-80K after you graduate, how much is getting out a year earlier worth to you? I would easily say an additonal $10K over 4 years.
So the numbers. With an additional $45,000,000(not counting the other $45M we socked away in gold, silver, rare earth minerals and agriculture stocks that will at least quadruple) for our unviversity enhancement program, lets say we hire an additional 100 instructors at $120,000 per year including benefits and that would take up $12M of our $45M budget and we are left with $33M. Well, we could allocate $5M to install the rest of the seats in the Pyramid and that would leave us with $28M. So with this we could spend $1.5M to build new fences for historic Blair Field and install a new patio/bbq area in left field while leaving a grass area between the new fence and the old concrete fence so we can have Beach Days at Blair and invite all the soroities to come dressed in their best bikinis, which would leave us with $26.5M. Wow, so much money left. Running out of things to spend it on. Ok, lets try. Put aside $10M per year to bring back football. We would play at Home Depot Center which seats around 25K. Get invited to the the MWC and we kick Boise St.'s ass and go on to win the National Championship. So that leaves us with $16.5M. Wheww. Is this ever going to end? Ok, give Monson $2M per year after he takes us to 3 consecutive Final Fours and we win our first Championship. Damn it!!! We still got another $14.5M. What else??? I don't know, waste the rest on strippers and beers. But you get the kind of idea of what we could create and how this would be a complete game changer for LB. Because of our huge enrollment, we could do huge things by increasing comparatively smaller amounts compared to smaller enrollment schools. And our tuition would still be WAY competitive.
And this from the BW Board about how we are 2nd in the BW as far as alumni giving. We are there. There are tons of alumni that want to give back and have a connection with the Beach and we just need to give them something to connect with and be proud of. Once we do that, the money will flow in because there is a pent up demand for us to elevate our standing as a university. We need to go more private with how we think and run the school. We can't depend on the state any more.
And read this sad sack story below. Just a decent increase to where our fees should be would take care of all this and more.
